The Navajo Office of Vital Records & Identification is responsible for Enrollment information and maintaining tribal member records, including life-changing updates. We hope the information on our website helps you find the services and resources you need.

Updating Records

Updating your records may be necessary following marriage, divorce, the birth of a child, legal name changes, or the death of a family member. All requests must include the required legal documentation.

Notarized Requests

Requests submitted by mail, fax, or email must be notarized to help protect tribal members against identity theft and unauthorized record changes.

Important Information

Window service is available Monday–Friday from 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM.
Same-day service is not available for New Enrollment, Marriage/Divorce Updates, Name Changes, or Affidavit of Birth requests.
Certificate of Indian Blood (CIB) and BIA-4432 requests may require additional research and processing time.

Our Services

Tribal ID

The Navajo Nation Identification Card (NNID) is available to enrolled Navajo Nation members for Tribal Verification purposes. First-time applicants must apply in person by appointment and provide the required original documents and payment. Once a client transfers to the NNID, they will no longer be eligible to request for the Certificate of Navajo Indian Blood (Green CIB paper). Certificate of Indian Blood

The Request for CIB and BIA 4432 service is available to enrolled Navajo Nation members who need a Certificate of Indian Blood (CIB) or a BIA-4432 Verification of Indian Preference for Employment. Select Learn More below for complete request instructions and document requirements.

Enrollment

The New Enrollment service is available to individuals who meet the Navajo Nation enrollment eligibility requirements. To qualify, the applicant must be at least one-quarter (¼) Navajo by blood, have at least one biological parent who is an enrolled Navajo Nation member, and have the enrolled parent's name listed on their original birth certificate.
